this image really captures smoking as being bad for you, can I ask permission to use it in an anti-smoking pdf e-book? obviously I will assign the credit for it to you in the proper way.
Amazing DoF and portrait. I truly adore your work. These photos you take of the homeless are so touching. You make each and every one of those shots so full of life.
I love this picture. It's like he trys so hard to look tough, and street smart, but if you look closley you can see his confusion, sadness, and maybe a little shame.
Another great photograph Stoneth. You do it so well and bring IT home in Black and White that these people, the young and the old, aren't just "Nobody's Children", they're part of America...and ours.
Let's hope we can bring them home again. Thanks
There but for the grace of God, go I. Thank you for letting me look deeply into the faces of people I avoid on the street because there isn't enough change in my pocket, and I don't know what will be done with it. But, yeah, cute doesn't come to mind, nor does cool. I guess he's young enough to rise above the temporary choices he's making in this picture, but most of the rest of the people in your gallery are not. Your photos are very striking, and they make me want to be more up front with the homeless in my town.
BTW- Did anyone notice the title ... Homeless boy smoking a joint.
I still think ...great shot, because this picture has captured the real world we live in.....not everyone has a pc ...or a home to sit in viewing pictures of all the different people or converse about the things we view on flickr. It makes me appreciate my life.
To me this is the art of reality..the art of what some people struggle through....this picture ( too me ) reflects only one of a a few scenerios..Missed opportunites? Tradgey striken? Bad luck? Lost soul? Drug dependent? Broken dreams? Abuse? Abandoment? I wish i knew why this man was on the streets with no home.
I am glad that this picture exists.... this has opened my eyes from the moment l came across it...made me thank god for all i have. For that it is a nice shot...it reminds me to never take for granted the things i have. This picture keeps me human..if that makes any sense.
his eyes look sad to me....I agree with M4N1K, I've been looking at these photos all morning, & I just feel really sad. I want to go to SanFran right now & help!!!! It hurts to know that these souls don't have family to love them. I just want to give them all a huge double-armed bear hug.....& a good hot meal.
I mean absolutely no disrespect toward any previous posters, but this is so real. Can you truly appreciate the fact that his man possibly has not had an actual meal in days? Can you appreciate the fact that while you walk around the streets daily with no problems, he is likely harassed several times an hour by the police? This isn't just art, people...and again I don't mean to cause any kind of fight, but this is the reality for this man. Right or wrong, despite your own morals, this man is living the real life. He is making it day to day without any kind of lofty stock options or pay or anything else. He is the real world, and though I also agree that Stoneth's pictures are amazing, it seems that everyone is so amazed by the capture, and not thinking about what this man goes through day-to-day. Trust me....it's certainly no utopia. WAKE UP.
These are amazing. I think this one is my favorite. I would love to hear some more about how you meet these people. Do you just walk up to them and start taking pictures, or ask first or get to know them and then snap photos. Brilliant Beautiful stuff you have here.
I'm loving his face!
Great candid shot, such a shame 2 B in the category he lives his life though, wonder what they run from?
Not a big fan of smoking, but the smoke drifting makes it more rough.
Awesome shot.
; )
This is a beautiful portrait.
But... does he really live in the street? I mean... he is so young. Well, it doesn't probably mean anything, but sometimes (or always) it makes you feel... well you know.
