Love without wisdom can be a very dangerous thing. As mothers, we need to know the effects of our causes. Causes begin before conception, and continue all the way through pregnancy, labor and birth. After baby is born, causes continue as a mother tries to do her best, bonding, interpreting subtle and not-so-subtle signals, and losing herself in service to her child. Some call it the greatest love they have ever known. One thing is certain: you will be stretched, physically, emotionally, mentally, ethically and psychically, beyond anything you could have imagined. In that process you will discover your strength, your power, and your deep capacity to love and to give to a completely helpless infant. You will become the mother you intend to be.

I am a birth and post-partum doula, and a lactation specialist. I support women in birth and afterwards. I teach soul to soul communication between mother and baby (and father and baby).  It's important to honor the different pace of your baby's mental processes and to meet your baby there.  Soul-to-Soul Communication facilitates a meeting between the slow brain waves of baby and the rapid brain waves of adults. 

I also conduct Sacred Wisdom Circles for mothers and babies with my partner, Meg Ellsworth, mother of two young girls.

I believe that women hold the key to the evolutionary potential of humanity by the way they bring their children into the world, and by the way they mother. It is my joy to inspire and assist new mothers to recognize and access their innate wisdom, and follow their hearts in birthing and caring for their babies. Fathers have a very important role in this, as well, but biology places mothers in the position of being the first love. Fathers’ loving support of mothers creates the safety, pleasure, and serenity needed for the optimal growth of children.

Intention in mothering is all-important. It sets the tone for you to manifest your ideals in your own family. Mothering can be a spiritual path, in the sense of a practice in selfless service, and a labor to polish and refine your rough edges. After all, you don’t want to simply repeat what you experienced as a child, do you? You do have choices, and you can choose how you wish to mother. No one is perfect, and there will be times of crisis and difficulty. A sacred community of mothers who support each other makes it easier. There are many groups of mothers in all regions of the earth. You can create your own.
