Slowing down to Peace; Feeling the Love; Laughing with Joy

If your baby is still inside, sit or lie down in a quiet place, where you will not be disturbed.

If your baby is in your arms, sit or lie down in a quiet place, where you will not be disturbed.

First, prepare your mind by breathing slowly and rhythmically, focusing your mind on the inhale and the exhale, invoking deep peace in you and your baby. Rhythmically means that your inhale time equals your exhale time and that you make an equal time of rest between. Use your own resting heart-beat to set the pace. For example: Inhale to the slow count of four, hold to the count of four, exhale to the count of four, hold to the count of four. After you do this a few times it will become natural and you won’t have to count.

Now realize that these physical bodies are not really solid – there is space. What seems solid is composed of trillions of atoms -- nuclei and electrons moving so fast that they create a solid network, yet the space between nuclei and electrons is proportional to the distance between the sun and its whirling planets. We inhabit space. Close your eyes and feel the space within, outside of yourself, space all around us, above, below, front, back, side-to-side.

Within this “open” web you can imagine your two bodies merging, a sharing of energies and spirit, an interconnection of matter, a loving union. Affirm “We are one, my precious darling,” or whatever you wish to say once you have gained the insight.

Now look into your baby’s eyes, or imagine your baby’s eyes as they are open inside your womb. There is a light there, a sparkle of consciousness, the same light that is in your eyes. This signals the presence of the soul. Soul is intelligence, consciousness that transcends the body, imagination that creates from invisible space. Your soul “knows” beyond rational explanation; it is the home of conscience, and impels you to your highest ethical potential. Raise your awareness to this fact, and realize that within baby’s body there is a living soul just as there is a living soul within your body. As intelligences, you know each other. You have been together before. You are embarking upon a new journey together, this time with you as the Mother and your baby as the Child. Establish this fact in your consciousness.

Recognizing your baby ignites love. Beam that love through your eyes into the eyes of your baby. If your baby is still inside, picture it in your mind. If you wish, speak interiorly or softly out loud what you feel and your intentions for mothering or fathering. Describe the life you are creating for your baby. Welcome your child into your life; promise your unending love and devotion, your tender presence and your caring heart for your baby’s lifetime.

Sing a song to your baby, like “We are one in the infinite sun, in the infinite sun we’re one.”

Whatever comes to mind is right. Your baby loves your voice above all others, even if you think you can’t sing or imagine you don’t have a good voice. Sing from your heart.

As you gaze into your baby’s eyes, or as you imagine your baby’s eyes within you, you will receive an unmistakable message of understanding and recognition, a signal with consciousness behind it. When you do, you will feel like laughing for joy. Your baby will be right with you in this emotion. Giggle, laugh, make funny sounds, cry for joy. This consciousness of essence, this presence together in love, is one of life’s most precious moments. Enjoy it. Repeat it.

Soul-to-soul communication is the basis for a life-long connection in love.
